About Tadami line

Tadami line is located in the north of Tokyo, and it takes about 4 hours to reach Aizu Wakamatsu station from Tokyo via Shinkansen. It runs between Aizu Wakamatsu station and Koide station, but currently between Aizu Kawaguchi Sta. and Tadami Sta. is out of service because of flood in 2011. It runs rural mountainous area, and runs only 4 or 6 trains a day for each direction. It takes about 6 hours to go through the Tadami line from Aizu Wakamatsu Sta.to Koide Sta. No express train is available.

Good News

I learned that the restoration work of Tadami line, currently suspended between Aizu kawaguchi station and Tadami station, will start soon. The work is scheduled to finish before March/2022.

I have been there several times to shoot steam locomotive between 2005 and 2009.

In this article, I’ll introduce beautiful shooting spots of Tadami line.

When I visited the Tadami line, I lived in Nagoya. From Nagoya, Tadami line is so far, so it was difficult to change the schedule according to weather forecast, and only to stick to the original schedule. Therefore, you’ll find many of the photos I took are under the cloud. However, I believe that autumn leaves look better in cloudy weather with moisture.

The train running on the iron bridge. You can take it from prefectural road 32. The steam locomotive train in the photo headed for Koide station. Steam locomotive train on Tadami line does not smoke so much, so this much smoke is a kind of good success.

This is one of the most famous railway shooting spot in Japan. There is a pathway to reach the spot, tough it wasn’t ready when I was there.

The place I took the photo is now called VIEW POINT D. View point details are listed on the official site of Mishima Town tourism, and you’ll find the latest situation of the view points.

From Aizu Miyashita station to the view point, Mishima Town bus is available. Please see the site.

In the summer of 2005, I visited Tadami line for the first time, and visited again in the winter of the year. I climbed the steep mountain path which was hard to climb even in summer. I tripped over many times to reach the shooting point. Really wanted to go up more, but I didn’t get there in time.

Tadami Line shooting spot

As we all know, Tadami line is famous for fantastic autumn leaves. The color is thick and rich, and it contunues along the railroad endlessly. Really fabulous!

At this time, I was fairly lucky to see this much smoke. But next year, I visited the place again and found no smoke at all.

The photo below is the steam locomotive train headed for Koide station.

It is an arch bridge runs under the route 252. Hmm, it is a great snow. The train on the photo was heading for Aizu Wakamatsu station.

By the way, the road runs on the upper right side of the photo, Tadami line, and the road I was standing all are arch bridge, and now it is called Arch Brothers. They are really Instagenic.

Please see the page.

I came to the place again in the night to take the photo. I took the photo of the train running through in the dark night with bulb shooting.

The autumn leaves are splendid. Because the mountain on the left side is toward the north, sunlight does not reach there all day.

This  is my most favorite shooting spot of Tadami line. In the autumn, the cliff behind the rail track wears orange carpet, and it is so beautiful.

The shape of rail track is so beautiful, so it is difficult for me to pass through the curve without taking photos.
